The former Diane Rowe, partnering her 20 minutes younger twin sister Rosalind, who sadly passed away in 2015, they won the women’s doubles title at the 1951 World Championships in Vienna, before in 1954 regaining the title in London. In the Konzerthaus in Vienna, at the time, 17 years and 320 days old; their combined ages remain to this day the youngest ever to hold the W.J. Pope Trophy high; an achievement put into context when considering Japan’s Mima Ito and Hina Hayata who were both 18 years of age when they reached the final in 2019 in Budapest. ITTF Group and Swaythling Club Provide Support to Turkish Players at WTT Event

The ITTF Group has pledged to continue to stand in solidarity with counterparts from Türkiye and Syria, through its long-term concerted efforts in supporting the nation. Following the devastating earthquakes that happened in Türkiye last month, the ITTF Group has activated its Emergency Relief Fund to make it available to the Turkish table tennis community. Established by the ITTF Foundation, it was set up to respond to disasters and provide financial aid to affected parties.   During the recent WTT Youth Contender that took place from 19 to 25 March at Antalya, Türkiye, several table tennis players, coaches and parents from the earthquake affected areas were invited to participate in the event, with all expenses such as accommodations and transport all paid for

Swaything Club Members Meet at Belgian National Championships

Staged on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th March in Knokke, former national champions met on the occasion of the Belgian National Championships. Alex Thackaberry (1928-2023)

A member of the Swaythling Club International, an outstanding servant of Table Tennis Ireland, Alex Thackaberry passed away on Sunday 1st January. He began a period of 35 years of service to the sport at management level in 1976. He served the Association as Treasurer for 10 years, followed by a period of 15 years as Chair. In 2001 he was elected President. He resigned in 2011 being appointed Deputy Life President. He played a major role in the organisation of the 1992 World Veteran Championships in Dublin.

A successful Muscat 2023 World Veteran Championships concluded in Oman, attention now turns to the 2023 European Veteran Championships to be held in Sandefjord , Norway, from Monday26th June to Saturday 1st July 2023. The Norwegian Table Tennis Association kindly offers six complementary places for members of the Swaythling Club International. Undoubtedly, the tournament will be a huge event with an anticipated record entry; the six guest places will be in high demand.
