Crowned World champions one month earlier in Durban, at WTT Contender Zagreb 2023 tournament, play concluding after seven days of action on Sunday 2nd July, for China’s Fan Zhendong and Sun Yingsha there was no repeat success.
Fan Zhendong was beaten in the final of the men’s singles event by colleague Lin Gaoyuan (11-9, 11-13, 15-13, 12-14, 11-8, 11-9); at the same stage in the women’s singles, Sun Yingsha experienced defeat at the hands of Japan’s Miu Hirano (4-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-7, 7-11, 14-12, 11-6).
