Victory by the very narrowest of margins, Egypt’s Mohamed Shouman brought proceedings to a close on the evening of Monday 16th August at the 2021 Arab Championships in the Jordanian capital city of Amman.

In a dramatic men’s singles final, after trailing 1-5 at the change of ends in the deciding seventh games, the 28 year old emerged successful by the very narrowest of margins in opposition to the host nation’s Zaid Abo Yaman (11-7, 9-11, 11-6, 6-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9).

Disappointment for Zaid Abo Yaman, it was the same for sister Taimaa Abo Yaman, likewise in the women’s singles event, she had to settle for silver, likewise, experiencing defeat at Egyptian hands.

She was beaten in six games by Roaa Al Naghy (10-12, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7, 11-2, 11-5),
