Hong Kong’s Wong Chun Ting was very much the player in form on the opening day of action, Friday 13th November, at the Dishang 2020 ITTF Men’s World Cup in Weihai.
He was the surprise name to reserve a top spot place in the initial group stage of proceedings.
The no.14 seed, in his opening contest, he beat Egypt’s Ahmed Saleh, the no.21 seed (11-6, 11-8, 11-4, 11-2), prior to overcoming Korea Republic’s Jeoung Youngsik, the no.9 seed (11-9, 10-12, 12-10, 11-7, 7-11, 12-10). Impressive the form continued, he secured top spot by overcoming Croatia’s Tomislav Pucar, the no.19 seed (11-6, 11-8, 14-12, 9-11, 19-21, 11-8).
