Chief Executive of Table Tennis England, Sara Sutcliffe, has been awarded the MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in Queen’s Birthday Honours released on Saturday 10th October.

Customarily the award is made in June each year but was delayed owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to table tennis, in a period of 20 years’ service to sport, Sarah Sutcliffe has worked for the British Olympic Association and has held positions on the boards of British Gymnastics and GB Taekwondo.

Notably, she played a key role in the Every Sport Matters campaign, an initiative to help minor sports gain base level funding in order to progress to high level and eventually compete at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The campaign resulted in the formation of the UK Sport Aspiration Fund with finance for a overall 15 sports including table tennis.

Most recently she been one of the major names with regards to exerting pressure on the British government to make sure sports hall are open for the purpose originally intended when the lockdown situation eases.
