Runner up at the 2020 Europe Youth Top 10 in Berlin, Iulian Chirita emerged the most successful player at the 2021 WTT Youth Contender Vila Real tournament staged from Tuesday 11th to Monday 17th May.
He won both the under 17 boys’ singles and under 15 boys’ singles titles as Romania proved the dominant force; in addition, Darius Movileanu secured the Under 19 boys’ singles top prize.
The one male title to elude Romania came in the under 13 boys’ singles, Portugal’s Tiago Abodiun emerged the winner.
Meanwhile in the counterpart girls’ singles events, there was notable success for Germany.
Josephine Neumann and Annett Kaufmann won the respective under 13 and under 15 titles; Anna Hursey of Wales, the under 15 top prize, Uzbekistan’s Markhaba Magdieva claimed under 19 gold.
