Imperious, Chen Meng won the women’s singles title at the 2020 Chinese National Championships staged in Weihai, Shandong Province, on Friday 9th October.

In the rounds to decide podium places, she did not surrender a single game. At the final hurdle she overcame Sun Yingsha (11-2, 11-7, 12-10, 11-9), after in the penultimate round having accounted for Wang Manyu (11-8, 11-6, 11-3, 12-10).

Similarly, in the opposite half of the draw, Sun Yingsha was in the fast lane. Facing Gu Yuting, she reserved her place in the title decider in emphatic style (11-6, 11-2, 11-6, 11-3).

Success for Chen Meng, in the men’s doubles it was success for Ma Long and Xu Xin, the 2011 world champions in Rotterdam.

At the semi-final stage, they accounted for Ma Te and Hou Yingchao (8-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-6, 11-7), before ending the hopes of Lin Gaoyuan and Liang Jingkun to secure the title (8-11, 15-13, 14-12, 11-3, 11-3). In the adjacent semi-final Lin Gaoyuan and Liang Jingkun had ended the aspirations of Fan Zhendong and Wang Chuqin (8-11, 11-6, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8, 12-10.

The semi-finals and finals of both the men’s singles and women’s doubles events will be played on Saturday 10th October.
