Tom Jarvis receives the Richard Bergmann Fair Play Award from Clare Briegal, Chair of Table Tennis England
Presented by the Swaythling Club International, on the concluding day of play, Sunday 25th May, at the ITTF World Championships in Doha, England’s Tom Jarvis received the Richard Bergmann Fair Award.
Jarvis was nominated for the award as a result of his sportsmanship shown against China’s Liang Jingkun in the last 16 of the men’s singles. He agreed to a let when Liang Jiangkun believed the ball was wet after the English player had served.
The award was collected in Doha by Clare Briegal, Chair of Table Tennis England.
Later, alongside a framed photograph, she presented the award to Jarvis at a recent Table Tennis England staff meeting.
Now over 50 years ago, the first recipient was Sweden’s Kjell Johansson at the 1967 World Championships in Stockholm
