An occasion that will live long in the memory for Claude Bergeret, President of the Swaythling Club International; from 7.00 pm to 7.10 pm on Thursday 27th June, she carried the Olympic torch through the streets of Metz.
Also present was Jean-Philippe Gatien, amongst a host of other titles, crowned World champion in 1993. He attended alongside his mentor for many years, the celebrated coach, Michel Gadal.
In the sport of table tennis, to this day Claude Bergeret remains the only French woman to own a world title. She won the mixed doubles at the 1977 World Championships in partnership with the late Jacques Secretin.
