Invited by the organising committee as members of the Swaythling Club International, Switzerland’s Elmira Antonyan-Brunner and Hungary’s Zsolt-Georg Böhm are both guaranteed medals at the 2025 European Veteran Championships in Novi Sad following their efforts on Friday 20th June.

Alas for the third member of the group, Thierry Miller, also from Switzerland, it was the end of the road, competing in the Over 55 Years category, it was defeat in both the men’s singles and with Denmark’s Henrik Vendelbo in the men’s doubles.

In the former Sweden’s Lars Mattsson ended progress (11-7, 11-8, 11-6), in the latter the combination of Germany’s Piotr Frackowak and Finland’s Jorma Lahtinen who halted aspirations (11-8, 11-7, 6-11, 11-6).

Rather differently for Elmira Antonyan-Brunner in the Over 70 Years age group, both women’s singles and women’s doubles places have been booked.

At the quarter-final stage of the women’s singles she accounted for Francoise Guillotea of France (11-4, 11-6, 11-9) and now meets Dina Minaka, an independent athlete, in the penultimate round.

Meanwhile, the women’s doubles success in opposition to the combination of Jana Gillanyrova and the Czech Republic’s Jitka Marsikova (9-11, 12-10, 11-2, 11-3) ensured a semi-final berth. Ekaterina Krasnova an independent athlete and Italy’s Sonia Milic form the penultimate round pairing.

Impressive from Elmira Antonyan-Brunner, it was the same from Zsolt-Georg Böhm. On duty in the 60 years age group; safely through the last eight, he overcame Sweden’s Jan Ekstrom (11-6, 11-8, 11-9); fellow Hungarian, Mikols Nagy now awaits.
